Who are you named after...?
Daily Mail (UK) -- November 17, 2006
Some parents have always looked to celebrities when picking names for their children but in recent years inspiration appears to have come from more unusual sources.
Researchers who examined birth records dating back to 1984 have found named amongst them two Supermans, six Gandalfs, two Reeboks, three Adidas and 26 boys and girls named Arsenal. Even the stranger names of celebrity kids are inspiring ordinary parents around the country, as there are 28 Brooklyns, two Apples and 472 Peaches. For girls born after 1984, Kylie is the most popular "musical" name. There are 7,261 young ladies named after the diminutive diva, according to the research by the family history website findmypast.com, which examined its online records, taken from the National Archives. In contrast, the more outrageous Madonna only manages 288 namesakes and is beaten by Shakira (2,614) and Britney (1,611). The most popular "up and coming" girl's name is Kiera, with 6,074 being named since the actress came to public attention in 2002. Amongst male celebrities, Keanu Reeves has the greatest number of namesakes in the UK with 1,120 - dwarfing Dre with 426 in the "showbiz names" list. Sport features heavily in the list, with 1,191 boys named Tiger after American Golfer Tiger Woods. It takes the overall top spot for male namesakes. In addition there 39 Gazzas, 27 Tupacs, seven Jay-Zs and one Harry Potter.
